Bulk food to provide meals for 200 kids
Compassion Kitchens
Cartagena, Colombia
THE ORGANIZATION
Compassion Kitchens is a nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing food insecurity among children by establishing and supporting locally operated community kitchens in areas facing extreme poverty. With eight kitchens currently under its support across Colombia, Compassion Kitchens relies on a 100% volunteer-powered model, ensuring that all administrative costs are covered by private donors. This approach allows every donation to go directly toward purchasing food for children in need.
The project
Compassion Kitchens, with essential support from Kids First, is assisting two community kitchens in Colombia that needed immediate assistance: Comedor Pan y Vida in Bogotá, which serves children in a homeless encampment, and Comedor Infantil "Campo De La Cruz" in one of Atlántico’s poorest areas. Each kitchen currently provides one daily meal, Monday through Friday, to around 100 children, benefiting approximately 200 food-insecure children in total.
